What you need to know before your boudoir photoshoot

I get asked ‘What do I need to know before my boudoir photoshoot’ a lot. So, I figured I’d share some insight. What are the MOST important things to know before you do your session? Every gal who books with me gets an extensive prep guide (over 20+ pages of info!) that will help you prepare for the best experience possible. Here are some of the highlights!

When you book your session:

1. Get excited!

I always tell people, booking is by far the HARDEST part of the whole process! Finding the courage to put it in the books is the biggest step, the rest is so much fun. You get to be pampered AND learn to appreciate yourself all in one sitting? Sign us up!

2. Ask questions.

I’m always happy to answer any questions you have about your session! I’m an open book. Email is the best way to reach me, but I’m more than happy to chat on the phone or zoom.

3. Be prepared.

I highly recommend getting to know your photographers work and finding out which images light you up. Most photographers don’t require this, but I know most of us really appreciate it!

The week before your session:

1. HYDRATE

It’s pretty well known that you should be drinking lots of water anyway, but it’s a VERY good idea to do so the week before your session. It’ll keep your skin looking plump, radiant, and moisturized. (here’s my favorite for the face).

2. Big Changes

Make sure if you plan to get your hair colored or cut that you do it with some time to spare before your session. This goes for spray tans too. Yes, I can edit a lot of things, but it’s a good idea to try to prevent any issues before they happen if possible.

3. Stay out of the sun

Tan lines are the bane of all boudoir photographers’ existences! Again, we can edit, but it’s harder than you think! Plus, we want as natural a look as possible.

The day before and the day of:

1. Get some sleep.

Everyone gets a bit nervous, but you’ll be glad you gave yourself a little relaxation before your session. And I’ll be giving you a little bit of a yoga session with all the fun boudoir positions, so your body will appreciate the rest!

2. Don’t starve!

While you never want to stuff yourself, make sure you at least have a meal before your session, staying away from anything that you know will make you bloated. Greasy foods and lots of sweets might be a good idea to forgo until after your session as well.

3. Arrive Ready

Make sure you arrive for your hair and makeup with clean and dry hair, as well as a clean face. You’ll be ready to get started right away that way!

4. Have fun!

Even if you are nervous, I promise you’ll love this. Boudoir is my favorite things to photograph, and I’m sure you’ll know that by the time your session is done. I can’t wait to take the best photos of yourself you’ve ever seen!

Check out more on my blog here for prep tips! Or better yet, just reply to this email and I’d be happy to answer any questions you have. I hope to hear from you soon!
